Short Course

Workshop on applied spatial data analysis with R.

Chilworth Manor, 6 - 7 September 2008

Course Coordinator: Edzer Pebesma

R is an environment for the statistical analysis and plotting of data. In recent years it has become more and more popular for analysing spatial data. This workshop will give an introduction to R, and take the participants through a set of exercises on analysing spatial data. No previous knowledge of R is required. Participants are expected to bring a laptop with R installed, for which the instructions will be provided. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own data to try things out.

The two-day course will include the following subjects:

- introduction to R
- introduction to the S language
- basic data structures: lists and data frames
- formula's
- getting spatial data in and out of R
- plotting spatial data
- analysing point pattern data
- analysing lattice data
- analysing geostatistical data
- multivariable geostatistics in R
- space-time geostatistics in R
- programming in R

Attendants should note that the workshop will make use of the book 'Applied Spatial Data Analysis with R' which will be available to purchase, with a 20% discount, on the day of the workshop. There is no need for delegates to contact GeoEnv to reserve a copy. The book can also be ordered online but will NOT be available in time for the workshop via this route. For ordering online with a 20% discount, go to http://www.r-project.org/, follow the link "Books", find the book and click on discount info.
